
John (Jay) Kington is Chief Counsel for Administration & Finance in the Legal Affairs unit of Georgia Tech’s Office of the General Counsel. Since joining Georgia Tech in 2016, he has advised on a wide range of matters including departmental sales and services, privacy, intellectual property, corporate governance, real estate, regulatory and compliance issues, risk management, and complex transactions.
Jay has also supported Georgia Tech Research Corporation in various officer roles, providing guidance on governance, contracts, and compliance. He brings more than a decade of experience in academia along with prior legal practice in intellectual property, litigation, estate planning, and transactional matters.
Jay earned his J.D. from John Marshall Law School, an LL.M. in Intellectual Property from Washington University, an M.B.A. from Georgia Tech, an M.S. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Tennessee, and a B.S. in Biology/Chemistry from the University of the South. Outside the office, he enjoys flyfishing, sports, and traveling.
